Gordon H. Mansfield Veterans Village

The Gordon H. Mansfield Veterans Village of Agawam, MA, is the fifth MBL supported project sponsored by Soldier On. MBL led the financial structuring, leveraging over $3 million in soft debt from the Commonwealth and more than $12 million in private equity from state and federal Historic and Low-Income Housing Tax Credits.

Soldier On is a non-profit organization dedicated to end homelessness for Veterans. Originally built in 1916, the current Veterans Village was once the site of the historic Hampden County Training School, which was converted through preservation, rehabilitation, and restoration into a 51-unit limited equity housing cooperative for formerly homeless veterans. This development employs sustainable building and energy practices including solar energy, innovative building materials, and net zero design features that all reduce the energy use and costs for residents. This development provides formerly homeless veterans with permanent, supportive, and sustainable housing that allows residents to live independently.
